Ninth Grade Spelling List and Practice

In ninth grade, students often read novels, study vocabulary and review essential grammar skills, but they don't usually study spelling. By high school, students are expected to have adequate spelling skills, and teachers rarely give explicit spelling instruction. However, ongoing practice can be beneficial, and you can help your child by providing lists and activities for after school review.

How Can I Help My Ninth Grader Practice Spelling Words?

High school students are usually familiar with common word patterns, spellings and sounds, but there are always new terms and commonly misspelled words that they can practice to continually improve their abilities. Several websites offer free spelling lists coupled with worksheets that you can print off for your ninth grader. Practice exercises may include matching prefixes and suffixes, using the words correctly within a sentence and choosing the proper spelling from a list.
