What Is Scholastic?

Scholastic is the world's largest publisher and supplier of children's books and educational materials. This company is well known for creating and delivering quality books, magazines and educational programs that are available for families and teachers. Scholastic also offers resources and lesson plans for teachers of any grade level. In addition to math games, Scholastic has activities that connect math to other subject areas, a Homework Hub that allows parents to be an active part of their child's homework and Study Jams that provide teachers with an interactive teaching approach that can be used in their classroom.

Math Maven's Mysteries

This game has students solving a math mystery, which is presented in a fun scenario with follow-up problems for the student to answer. Math Maven's Mysteries provides audio for your child to listen to as the scenario is read to him or her, or you can choose to print the mathematical mystery. Your child can choose the appropriate level of difficulty, along with the specific skill area that he or she would like to practice. For instance, a student can choose to focus on areas like whole number operations, fractions and ratios, measurement, geometry and logical reasoning.

Maggie's Earth Adventures

In one section called Maggie's Earth Adventures, students can practice math by playing games, such as Dude's Dilemma and Around the World in 80 Seconds. Dude's Dilemma has students practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to save Dude the Dog. The more correct answers the player provides, the closer he or she comes to saving Dude.

Around the World in 80 Seconds requires students to apply the math skills he or she knows in a fast-paced setting. Users are allowed to choose the level of difficulty and the skill(s) to be practiced. However, for all the levels, players only 80 seconds to fly around the world. Each correctly answered question will get players closer to completing their travels.

Max's Math Adventures

This online game is mainly suited for lower elementary students. Among other options, a player can choose to work on math topics like counting objects, ordering items based on length or ordinal numbers. Real-world application is included by having students use items found in their environment to perform a specific math task. For example, students could be asked to find five things in their home that are rectangular. Each task also provides an activity page and extra challenges that are sure to fit any child's ability level.
