EOG Exam for 4th Grade Students: Prep and Practice Information

Every spring, most 4th graders in North Carolina are required to take the End-of-Grade (EOG) exam. The EOG exam is a typical multiple-choice standardized test similar to what is administered in most states. Read on to find out about a handful of resources that you can use to help your 4th grader get ready for it.

Your 4th grader will be tested on reading and math. Because most school curriculums are based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, it's likely that your child will be preparing throughout the year. In the days and weeks leading up to the exam, you can download practice tests and utilize other online resources to help your child prepare.

Practice Questions from the North Carolina Public Schools

For EOG information and practice questions from the source, check out the North Carolina Public Schools website. You can download the math and reading practice questions or else view them online. Answer keys are provided along with information on what skill was tested and what objective it correlates with. The site also provides information on the EOG test for each grade level. Download the Standard Course of Study for English and math for all of the information you need on what your 4th grader will be tested on.

The Department of Instruction's EOG Practice Exercises

For organized 4th grade EOG practice exercises, look no further than the Department of Instruction website. This site is operated out of Cumberland County, where it's the policy that schools can't provide links to other websites. For this reason, sample questions have been taken from released EOG tests and broken down into individual, easy-to-follow sections of study.

The Department of Instruction divides the math section into four separate goals linking to four sets of practice questions. The reading section is divided into several sub-categories: informational consumer, informational content, drama, poetry, fiction and literary nonfiction.

Resources from the Texas Education Agency

Because core standards and assessment tests are similar across the country, it can be useful to check out resources other states have to offer. For example, the Texas Education Agency provides study guides and released exams online. The 4th grade practice exams are in reading, writing and math. You can download them in English or Spanish.
