MCAS Math Help: Worksheets to Help Students Prepare for the MCAS
The MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) is administered to students in Massachusetts beginning in 3rd grade. Students can prepare for the MCAS by completing math worksheets and MCAS practice problems. The following sites provide free online math review.
Sample Math Questions from the Department of Education
You can find sample MCAS math problems by using the question search tool provided by the Massachusetts Department of Education. When your child completes these practice problems, he or she will become accustomed to the types of problems on the MCAS. The questions that appear are real problems from MCAS exams from the past six years. Each year, the Department of Education releases 50% of the problems from the most recent MCAS exams. Another page on the Massachusetts Department of Education site offers free MCAS exams with answer keys.
Free Worksheets from Math-Drills.com
If your child needs to practice particular skills prior to the MCAS, you may want to have him or her complete the free worksheets available from Math-Drills. These worksheets cover a variety of skills that students in 3rd grade all the way through high school may need to practice. Each worksheet comes with an answer key.
The sheets are simply designed, with large letters and basic drawings or diagrams. They come as PDF files and, as a result, cannot be completed online. Math-Drills offers dozens of free worksheets, so after you view the actual MCAS math problems, you can come here and look for sheets corresponding with the specific math units your child needs the most amount of practice with. These sheets, in conjunction with some of the practice tests on other sites, could provide a comprehensive study plan for the MCAS.
Boston Public Library MCAS Practice
If your child is in 4th, 8th or 10th grade, this free math resource may come in handy. Online problems (at least 32 for each grade level) are given, and you don't need a password to access them. Your child can complete one problem at a time (only one appears on the page at a time) and view his or her answers immediately. The questions used are specifically geared toward MCAS exams.
