3 Awesome Math Games: Fun Online Math Activities for Kids
Math games can be an exciting way for your child to develop his or her math skills. Educators and game designers have created a host of free online math games that your kid can play alone or with friends. Read on to learn about a few fun online math games.
FunBrain.com's Math Arcade
FunBrain.com's website features Math Arcade, a creative series of 25 cumulative math skills games that your child will play for a chance to move his game piece forward on a colorful game board. Once your child has selected his age, he will be prompted to play a unique math game. With each win, he may move the game piece forward and begin the next sequential math game.
Games include Bumble Numbers, which requires your child to move a bee around the screen, catch numerical answers that fall from the sky and drop them into tulips containing the matching problems. Moon Rocks is a math memory game that requires players to recognize correct arithmetic problems and recall what is under each moon rock. Each game has diverse visual appeal, making Math Arcade an action-packed way to improve math skills. When your kid passes a new level, he will be given a free password in order to pause and start the game later at his current status. Math Arcade tests varied levels of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Math Jeopardy from Math-Play.com
This fun math game tests students' math ability in an exciting and high-stakes environment. Designed for 2-4 players, this game allows students to choose their team name and pick their identity from a list of 50 unique characters. Players must then choose the number of points they want to risk from a range of 100-300.
A math problem will pop up; the first player to find the answer rings her buzzer and selects her answer. The winner will be prompted to print out a certificate with her name. Math Jeopardy can be played to test multiplication, decimals, geometry, algebra, fractions, exponents and integers.
ABCya.com's Math Man
Math Man is an exciting math game that resembles Pac-Man. Players must simultaneously eat the yellow dots in the maze and answer math questions of varied difficulty. For each correct answer, your kid must find and swallow particular ghosts to move onto the next level. This game tests arithmetic skills and helps kids improve their speed at solving math problems. Several activities occur at once, so kids must also learn to process more than one type of information at a time.
There are several versions of the game on the site. Math Man Jr. is appropriate for grades 2-3 and offers versions for addition, subtraction and both together. Math Man, which is aimed at 4th and 5th grades, offers separate versions for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as a game that includes all of these operations.
