GED Ohio: Learn About the Ohio GED Test
The GED tests provide the opportunity to earn a state of Ohio High School Diploma. Successful completion of each subject section will earn a GED diploma, issued by the Ohio Department of Education. Many employers and colleges accept this certificate as they would a traditional high school diploma, which may mean greater opportunities in the future.
Ohio's GED Requirements:
Eligibility
Individuals must meet the following requirements in order to take the GED exam, www.adultliteracy.org:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older (age requirements may vary, check with your local testing center for more details)
- Must be a resident of the state of Ohio
- Must have withdrawn from a regular high school program for at least six months
- Not a high school graduate
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing
- A 45 minute essay question.
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (Part 1 and 2)
- A calculator may be used on Part 1 only.
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. Individuals may retake all or part of the exam until a passing score is achieved.
Registration and Fees
Registration must be completed at any one of your local Ohio testing centers. There is a fee of $55. Bring sufficient ID with your social security number and proof of residence.
Preparation
Visit your local library or bookstore to view the available GED practice materials. Inquire at your local community college or adult learning center for information about GED prep courses.
