GED Nevada: Earning Your Nevada GED Diploma
Individuals who weren't able to compete their high school educations have a second chance by taking the General Education Development (GED) exam. Don't let not having a diploma hold you back from a respectable career. This article will go over Nevada's requirement for earning your GED.
Nevada's GED Requirements:
Eligibility
Individuals must meet the following requirements in order to take the GED exam, according to the Nevada Department of Education (NDE), www.doe.nv.gov:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older (age requirements may vary, check with your local testing center for more details)
- Must be a resident of the state of Nevada
- Must have proof of withdrawal from a regular high school program for at least six months
- Not a high school graduate
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing
- A 45 minute essay question.
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (Part 1 and 2)
- A calculator may be used on Part 1 only.
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. Individuals may retake all or part of the exam until a passing score is achieved.
Registration and Fees
Registration may be completed at any one of Nevada's official testing centers. There is a fee of $50 to take the exam (or $10 per section). Be sure to bring photo ID, proof of Nevada residency, and your social security number.

Visit your local library or bookstore to view the available GED practice materials. Inquire at your local community college or adult learning center information about GED prep courses.
