GED South Carolina: Information to Help You Take and Pass the South Carolina GED Test

South Carolina GED Requirements:
Eligibility
Individuals must meet the following requirements in order to take the GED exam, www.adultliteracy.org:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older (age requirements may vary, check with your local testing center for more details)
- Must have withdrawn from a regular high school program for at least six months
- Not a high school graduate
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing
- A 45 minute essay question.
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (Part 1 and 2)
- A calculator may be used on Part 1 only.
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. Individuals may retake all or part of the exam until a passing score is achieved.
Registration and Fees
Individuals must register for the exam by simultaneously mailing (or taking) your application, testing fee, and other necessary materials to the following address:

The application can be downloaded from the South Carolina Department of Education Adult Education website at www.sclrc.org. Their toll free number is 1-800-277-7323. You can also find a list of local testing center locations for all of South Carolina at the above website. The Department of Adult Education can also provide up to date pricing information and answer any other questions you may have.
Preparation
Visit your local library or bookstore to view the available GED practice materials. Inquire at your local community college or adult learning center for information about GED prep courses.
